At least 100 Bangladeshis have died abroad from COVID-19 infection around the world, with the most deaths in the United States at 58.
However, Foreign Ministry officials have officially confirmed the information only 10 deaths so far.
“We do collect unofficial information on Bangladeshis or Bangladesh-born nationals via Bengali communities abroad. So far, there are about 100 deaths, but the information came from unconfirmed sources,” an official said.
The list of official deaths includes five in Saudi Arabia, two in Qatar and three in Italy.
Meanwhile, local immigrants, their family members, and media reports confirm a total of
58 deaths of Bangladeshis living in the United States, the highest from any country. The total includes 11 female and 47 male nationals.
The unofficial death tallies are 24 in the United Kingdom, six in Saudi Arabia, three in Italy, two in Qatar and one each in Spain and Sweden.
