UNB, Dhaka :
The Election Commission has asked the Public Administration Ministry to withdraw its project deputy director Abdul Bari as he reportedly manhandled two journalists of Channel 24 at his office. “We’ve already started the process to take action. We’ve sent a letter to the Public Administration Ministry
seeking his (Bari) withdrawal as he’s official of the ministry who works here on deputation,” EC Secretary Sirazul Islam told reporters at his EC Secretariat office on Thursday.
Besides, the commission formed a three-member probe body headed by its project director (Admin and Finance) Syed Mohammad Musa to investigate the incident asking to place its report within three working days, he said. The commission will take further steps after getting the probe report, the EC Secretary added. Channel 24 reporter GM Mustafizur Alam and its cameraman Ripu Alam came under attack when they went to the EC’s NID Registration wing at Islamic Foundation Bhaban in the city’s Agargaon area on their professional duty to gather information over public sufferings during receiving the national identity services.
Following directives from Abdul Bari, a deputy director of IDEA project of the NID Registration Wing, his subordinates assaulted the journalists and broke their camera and cellphone sets confining them to Bari’s office room.
