bdnews24.com : Unnamed assailants have shot a businessman dead in Narayanganj after stopping the bus he was riding by exploding bombs. The incident occurred at Fatullah on Dhaka-Narayanganj link road around 9:45pm on Monday. Deceased Nurul Islam, 42, son of Hanif Haji of Sadar Upazila’s Baktabali Prasanna Nagar, lived at a rented house in Fatullah’s Rail Station locality. He ran a mobile phone shop, Popular Electronics, at Motalib Plaza in Dhaka’s Hatirpool. Police could not establish the motive behind the murder, but said it was clear that Islam was the target since no one else was harmed in the attack. Quoting witnesses, Naraynganj Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mohammad Sharfuddin said Islam was returning to Naraynganj from Dhaka on an Utsab Paribahan bus. The miscreants blasted bombs to stop the bus in front of Samad Banu CNG Filling Station in Mahmudpur. “They got on the bus when it stopped and fled with a bag from Nurul Islam after shooting him in the chest,” ASP Sharfuddin said. The driver took Islam to a hospital at Thanpur where doctors declared him dead. The windshield of the bus was broken by the impact of the explosion, the ASP said. Bus passenger Md Litu told bdnews24.com there were four to five assailants. They came in two motorcycles and shot Islam with a pistol, he added. The hospital’s emergency ward physician Sohel Rana said Islam died on the spot. The body was sent to the mortuary. Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Mokhlesur Rahman said they were trying to identify and arrest the miscreants. In last year’s sensational seven-murder incident, the victims were abducted from this Dhaka-Narayanganj link road. Before this, environment lawyer Syeda Rizwana Hasan’s husband AB Siddique was abducted from the road. He was freed later.
