Assailants killed two youths including a student of Jessore Polytechnic Institute early Monday.
But the police claimed that the victims were lynched by a mob at Hudarazapur under Jessore sadar upazila while trying to lift a motorbike.
The dead were identified as Ismail Hossain, 22, fifth semester student of Jessore Polytechnic Institute and son of Billal Uddin from Taraf Nawapara, and his friend welding trader Al- Amin, 23, son of Abdul Aziz from Arpara- Ghurulia village under Jessore Sadar Upazila.
Sikder Akkas Ali, Officer in-Charge, Kotwali police station, told that the
muggers were lynched by a mob while they were trying to lift a motorbike owned by Barun Kumar Tarafder of Chapatala village under Bagharpara Upazila in Jessore at around 10:30pm on Sunday.
The incident took place at Hudarazapur under Jessore Sadar Upazila while the motorbike rider was returning home from Jessore town, the police official added.
The duo died at Jessore Medical College Hospital while undergoing treatment at around 1am on Monday.
Hospital sources said Al – Amin was brought dead at 1:05am while Ismail Hossain at 1:08am.
Dr Kazal Kanti, Medical Officer, Jessore Medical College Hospital told The New Nation that they wore marks of tortures and stabbing of sharp weapons.
