Ain O Salish Kendra (ASK) yesterday strongly condemned the ongoing “mass arrest” across the country ahead of verdict in Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case.
“A total of 1,786 persons have been arrested in last eight days,” the rights body said citing media reports.
Centring BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s graft case verdict today 8, BNP and its affiliate bodies’ leaders and activists are being held across the country, ASK claimed in a press release signed by its Executive Director Sheepa Hafiza.
Though police are saying it’s a part of their routine work, their act is
contrary to the Article 33 and 36 of the Constitution which safeguard a citizen’s right to arrest and detention and freedom of movement respectively, the release read.
