UNB, Dhaka :
Rights body Ain O Salish Kendra (ASK) on Wednesday expressed deep concern over the ‘missing’ of two rescued hostages of the Holey Artisan Bakery attack.
Abul Hasnat Rezaul Karim, a businessman and former teacher of North South University, and
Tahmid Hasib Khan, a Bangladeshi student studying in Canada, were rescued along with 11 others during the commando operation at the Spanish restaurant on July 2 following a 12-hour hostage standoff.
The Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police took the due under their custody for interrogation as suspects in the incident. The law enforcement agencies claimed that they set them free after interrogation.
However, their family members claimed that they remained traceless.
In a statement signed by ASK acting executive director M Nur Khan, the rights body demanded that authorities concerned should take appropriate steps and the law enforcement agencies demonstrate highest professional attitude in this regard. The ASK thinks it is the constitutional responsibility of the government and the law enforcement agencies to ensure security of every citizen of the country, the statement said.
