Singer Asif Akbar yesterday withdrew his bail petition which he filed on Thursday with a Dhaka court in the case lyricist and composer Shafiq Tuhin lodged against him under the ICT Act. Shafiq Tuhin filed the case on the charges of music piracy and threatening him on the Facebook.
Asif’s lawyer Omar Faruk filed the bail petition with the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Amirul Haider Chowdhury. The court fixed Sunday for hearing on the petition. However, when the bail petition was put up for hearing on Sunday morning, Asif’s another lawyer Nushrat Jahan withdrew it.
On 6 June, the court sent singer Asif to the jail rejecting remand plea of the prosecution and Asif’s bail petition in the case.
Earlier, CID members arrested Asif from his studio from the Morning Post Tower at Panthapath around 3:00 am on June 6.
According to the case statement, Asif sold digital copies of several songs without taking permission from the singers and also threatened Tuhin on social media Facebook. On June 6, Tuhin filed the case with Tejgaon Model Police Station.
