Opener Abul Mazid fell six-run short from century but Legends of Rupganj registered an overwhelming seven-wicket victory over Brothers Union Club in the tenth round match of Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League on Friday.
Mazid hit five boundaries and seven over boundaries during his 110-ball knock as Rupganj chase down the target making 183 for the loss of three wickets with 75 balls to spare.
Mazid also involved 71-run second with stand with Mohammad Niam (32) and again paired another 69-run for the third wicket stand with his skipper Naeem Islam (36) to steer Rupganj to a facile victory.
Shakhawat Hossain and Sohrawordi Shuvo took one Rupganj’s wicket each.
Earlier, invited to bat first by Rupganj, Brothers Union Club despite a good 77-run opening stand by Mizanur Rahman and Junaid Siddique, suffered serious batting jolt and eventually dismissed at a paltry total of 178 in 48.1 overs at BKSP ground in Savar.
The highlight of Brothers’ dilapidated innings was opener Mizanur Rahman’s polish 63-run knock as Brothers Union lost wickets in regular intervals in the face of tight bowling display by the Rupganj bowlers.
Asif Hasan and Mohammad Shahid were the pick of Rupganj’s bowlers picking up four wickets apiece giving away 23 and 41 runs respectively. They were well supported by Parvez Rasool who took two for 31 runs.
Asif Hasan of Rupganj was named the player of the match for his fiere bowling display.
