The Asian Literacy Conference 2014 and 3rd National Conference of Teachers have begun at the capital’s Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) on Saturday. A total of 32 delegates from the different countries of the world are taking part in this 3-day long conference. Moreover 250 teachers from different districts of the country are also participating here.
In the opening ceremony former Advisor of a Caretaker Government Dr. Hossain Zillur Rahman stressed on the access of quality education. Showing a statistics of BANBEIS, he said the net enrolment rate in primary school at 86.7 per cent in 2002 but the drop-out rates and the repetition rates at primary and secondary level remains persistently high.
He issued some directions for enhancing role and contribution of teachers in addressing the quality agenda including professional capacity development teachers policy and practices and performance assessments, evaluation and rewards.
Dhaka Ahsania Mission (DAM) President Kazi Rafiqul Alam said, Quality Education means a synchronization of our conventional/historical knowledge with that of the present, which will ultimately prepare us to face the challenges of the future.
In the opening ceremony AUST VC Dr. Shafiullah was chief guest while Manager (Global Operations) of International Reading Association (IRA) Amy Schulte was present as special guest.
Former Advisor of a Caretaker Government Dr. Hossain Zillur Rahman presented the key-note paper. DAM President and the Chairman of Bangladesh Reading Association (BRA) Kazi Rafiqul Alam presided over the program.
It is maintainable that BRA in cooperation with DAM, IRA and Campaign for Popular Education (CAMPE) organized the conference.
