Disaster Management and Relief Affairs Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, Bir Bikram, urged the Asian countries to formulate specific guidelines and framework for the concerted disaster management and mitigation of its risk through the use of space-based technology.
“Space-based technology and usage of information has brought significant change for disaster management and mitigation of its risk. The maximum use of the technologies should be ensured to take preparation for future disaster,” he said.
The minister said this while presenting a keynote at the UN International Conference on Space-Based Technologies for Disaster Management “A Consolidating role in the implementation of the Sendai Framework on Disaster Risk Reduction: 2015-2030” in Beijing of China.
Representatives from 22 countries including Ministry of Civil Affairs of China Vice-Chairman Zia Oxigu took part in the meeting.
Maya said Bangladesh and neighboring countries have witnessed seven massive earthquakes in 150 years last.
