All the Bangladeshi archers, including celebrated Ruman Shana, made their early exist from the 21th Asian Archery Championship on the 4th day at the Rajamangala National Stadium in Thailand on Tuesday.
Bangladeshi famed archer Ruman Shana, who qualified for the Tokyo Olympics’2020 directly, was eliminated from the quarterfinals of the men’s recurve team event along with Tamimul Islam and Hakim Ahmed Rubel, losing to World Archery Federation team by 1-5 set points.
Bangladesh men’s recurve team advanced to the quarterfinals beating Hoang Phi Vu Nguyen, DucAnh Chu and Loc Hoang Van of Vietnam by 5-4 set points on the day.
Ruman Shana, the most prospective archer of Bangladesh, made his early exist from his favourite men’s recurve singles and recurve mixed team event on the 3rd day (Monday).
In the compound team event, Bangladesh men’s team comprise of Ashim Kumar Das, Sohel Rana and M Ashikuzzaman were eliminated from the pre-quarter stage losing to Sirapop Chainak, Nitiphum Chatachot and Dhansarit Itsarangkun Na Ayutthaya of Thailand by 227-230 score on Tuesday.
Bangladesh women’s team comprise of Bonna Akther, Susmita Bonik and Shamoly Ray were eliminated from the pre-quarter stage of the compound team event after conceding 217-218 score defeat against Jennifer Dy Chan, Anne De La Cruz Rachelle and Andrea Robles of the Philippines on the 4th day (Tuesday).
However, three Bangladeshi female archers of the recurve division-Mahanaz Akter Monera, Ety Khatun and Beauty Ray-will play in the Continental Qualification Tournament (CQT) for Tokyo Olympics 2020 on Thursday (Nov 28).
Only one women’s recurve team from the ensuing Asian Archery Championship will qualify for the Tokyo Olympics.
