ASI sent to jail for taking bribe

A suspended Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of police Special Branch (SB) was on Thursday sentenced to two years’ imprisonment in a case filed for demanding bribe from a High Court judge’s family members.
Ninth Special Judge of Dhaka Sheikh Hafizur Rahman on Thursday handed down the verdict.
According to the case statement, ASI Sadekul Islam went to the home of Justice Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman of the High Court Division for verifying the passport documents of his daughters on August 23, 2016. ASI Sadek then demanded Tk 2,000 from the wife of the judge for doing the work.
Later, a case was filed against Sadek with Shahbagh Police Station in connection with the incident on August 31.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on May 4, 2017, submitted the charge-sheet against Sadek.
Later, the court recorded depositions of four witnesses in the case and came up with the verdict on Thursday.
