An officer of police’s Special Branch (SB) has been held for allegedly demanding bribe from the wife of a High Court judge while verifying the passports of their two children.
Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque of High Court in a suo moto order on Wednesday called the Supreme Court registrar to the courtroom and asked him to hand over Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sadekul Islam to the
police. The court accused him of demanding Tk 2,000 as bribe from the wife of Justice Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman to verify the passports of their children.
It also accused him of hiding his real police identity and rank while asking for bribe. The court said ASI Islam had identified him as ‘SI Salam’. Justice Hoque also ordered suspension of the ASI and departmental action against him. A case against ASI Islam was also started with Shahbagh police.
