Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive arrested two men, including a detective police official, along with 6,80,000 Yaba tablets worth around Tk 27.76 crore from Lalpur area of Feni Sadar upazila on Saturday night.
They also seized a private car, about Tk 7 lakh cash, four mobile phone sets, eight credit cards and three notebooks from their possession.
The arrested men were identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Special Branch (SB) Mahfuzur Rahman and his car driver Jabed Ali, said Major Md Mozammel, Deputy Director of RAB-7, Feni Camp.
Mozammel said that a RAB team launched a raid at Lalpur in Sadar upazila and detained Mahfuz along with his car driver Javed around 11:30pm, ASP Sohel Mahmud, Assistant Director (media) RAB-7 said in a press statement at his office on Sunday.
“Mahfuz endorsed during primary interrogation that two policemen Belal and Mohammad Ashik gave the Yaba tablets to him for handing those over to their friends Zakir and Shahin, also a SB member, in Dhaka,” the RAB official said.
Belal is a Sub-Inspector (SI) of Detective Branch (DB) of police in Cox’s Bazar, and Ashik is In-Charge of Kumira Highway Police Outpost, the elite force official said.
Mahfuz also admitted that he has been running the drug racket misusing his power since long, he added.
The detainees are interrogated at RAB 7 Headquarters in Chittagong in this connection.
A case was filed regarding the matter, the RAB official said.
