A police officer was found dead in the district Police Lines pond here on Thursday night.
The deceased was identified as assistant sub-inspector of Detective Branch (DB) of police Shah Alam, 33, posted at the Police Lines.
Additional police super Belayet Hossain said Shah Alam informed his colleagues around 10 am that he did not feel well. Later, he went to the pond to have his bath and everyone forgot about him.
They started searching for him in the afternoon after noticing that he was missing although he was supposed to go on duty, he said. Later, a constable found his clothes and sandal on the pond bank. Fire Service divers were called in suspecting that he might have drowned in the pond.
Finally, the divers fished out his body from the pond at night, the ASP said, adding that he might have died of stroke while bathing.
