UNB, Brahmanbaria :
After two months of disruption that led to a colossal loss worth Tk 100 crore, production in Ashuganj Fertilizer Factory resumed on Friday.
Officials at the factory noted that they produced only 42,700 tonnes of urea over the first six months of the current fiscal (July-Dec) against a huge target of 1,70,000 tonnes for the fiscal.
The factory incurred a production loss of 1,200 tonnes a day due to the two-month disruption that is worth Tk 100 crore in total, they added.
However, the production loss will not lead to any shortage of urea as there is enough imported fertilizer in the government warehouse, according to Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC).
The company’s general manager (commercial) M Mostafizur Rahman said the factory has a stock of 639 tonnes its urea production as well as a stock of 47,633 tonnes imported urea.
More supplies are in the pipeline and there will be no shortage of the fertilizer, he added.
The production in the factory got disrupted from March 17 last year for various reasons, including low gas pressure, and damages in machine parts.
After the disruption, the fertilizer plant took the start-up on December 28 last and began to produce urea from Friday, according to officials.
