State Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has issued final warning to BNP-led 20 party alliance to withdraw blockade and hartal programmes, or face the music.
“You [BNP] called hartal and blockade during Bishwa Ijtema, we [government] did not tell you anything. The Secondary School Certificate [SSC] examinations will begin across the country from February 2. We will stop the blockaders by any means for the sake of examinees,” he said on Thursday.
Khan was speaking at a function on the closing day of Police Week-2015 at Rajarbagh Police Lines in the city.
“We are urging you [BNP] for the last time to withdraw hartal and blockade. If you don’t response to our call, the government will be compelled to take hard course of action. And so, the petrol bomb attackers and anarchists will be dealt with strong hands,” he cautioned. The home boss said the people are now chasing and capturing the arsonists and saboteurs. “The people of the country will also resist the blockaders in the same way in near future.”
Meanwhile, the SSC and equivalent exams are set to start on February 2 with the participation of over 1.4 million students. The ongoing roads, railways and waterways blockade has left parents and students worried over reaching exam centres.
At least 38 persons have died in violence during the nonstop blockade since January 6.
In 2013, the administration was forced to suspend SSC exams of 37 subjects and HSC exams of 41 subjects due to BNP-led 20-pary alliance’s shutdowns. The same year 17 JSC-JDC exams of and two primary and Ebtedayee exams were postponed and delayed due to shutdowns.
Several exams were also postponed for the shutdowns in 2014 too.
