The Shaheed Asad Day was observed in the capital as elsewhere across the country with an elaborate programme yesterday.
In observance of the day, different political parties, social-cultural-professional bodies placed wreaths and showered flower petals at the Shaheed Asad
Memorial in the city. Other programmes of the day included holding of discussions, poetry recitation sessions and cultural functions.
On this day in 1969, student leader Asadullah Mohammad Asaduzzaman Asad embraced martyrdom in police firing in Dhaka city during the students’ community’s demonstration on the 11-point movement launched against the misrule of military dictator General Ayub Khan.
