A three-week long exhibition of drawings by noted artists and writers, including Quamrul Hassan, SM Sultan, Shamsur Rahman, Aminul Islam, Murtaja Baseer, Qayyum Chowdhury, Ganesh Haloi, Anisuzzaman, Jogen Chowdhury, Monirul Islam, Shahabuddin and many other renowned Bangladeshi artists and writers, is being held at Bengal Shilpalaya in the city’s Dhanmondi area now.
The exhibition titled ‘Artistic Musings of the Greats’ was inaugurated by eminent educationist and litterateur Professor Emeritus Dr Anisuzzaman as the chief guest, while veteran painter Qayyum Chowdhury was present as a special guest and noted artist Monirul Islam as the guest of honour on the occasion.
Some 130 works are on display in the exhibition, which were selected from the private collection of renowned photographer Nasir Ali Mamun.
Nasir Ali Mamun and Luva Nahid Chowdhury, Director General of Bengal Foundation, also spoke at the inauguration of the exhibition. Nasir Ali Mamun, an eminent portrait photographer, was born in Dhaka in 1953.
He embarked on his journey just after the Liberation War. He has to his credit a number of publications on poet Jasimuddin, artist SM Sultan, poet Shamsur Rahman, essayist Ahmed Sofa, German Nobel Laureate Gunter Grass and others.
He was the first to introduce the concept of portrait photography. He has also collected artworks of many renowned artists. For the second time, the exhibition is showcasing the private and rare collections of Nasir Ali Mamun.
The exhibition will continue till July 5. n
