Artistes urged to come forward against terrorism

Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith said radio is a powerful broadcast media and its acceptability is yet to diminish.
He said this on Thursday while speaking as the chief guest at a function at Agargaon Jatiya Betar Bhaban here marking the ‘World Radio Day 2015’.
The minister asked Bangladesh Betar to project history and the spirits of the Liberation War to the new generation. He said the artistes have some social obligations.
They would have to come forward against the current terrorist activities.
“Burning people to death is not a mode of politics. Militants are enemies of artistes. Therefore, the artiste community would have to come forward,” he added.
Information Secretary Martuza Ahmed said Bangladesh Betar has been delivering services as an old and powerful mass media. It is the most important media to the marginal people for information and entertainment, he added.
The two-day function marking the World Radio Day 2015 include cultural programmes and an exhibition of old radio sets and broadcast equipments.
Presided over by Bangladesh Betar Director General Kazi Aktaruddin Ahmed, the function was attended as special guests by Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Ministry Sukumar Ranjan Ghosh, MP, Tarana Halim, MP.
The Finance Minister said radio has retained its position in society despite the revolution caused by mobile phone and television.
He recalled with respect the role of Swadhin Bangla Betarkendra during the Liberation War in 1971 and said besides entertainment, radio creates awareness about the nation’s culture, heritage, education and health issues.
