An articulated bus of Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) caught fire in front of the city’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) on Thursday. The fire broke out in the bus due to instrumental fault at about 11.55am and at least 15 passengers received injuries when they hurriedly tried to get down from the bus, fire service sources said.
Quoting the witnesses, Fire Service Control Room official Shahzadi Sultana said that four fire fighting units from Kurmitola and Tongi rushed to the spot and doused the blaze by 12.45pm.
She said that, the state-owned bus caught fire around 11:50apm.
Airport Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shah Alam said that a mechanical malfunction might have caused the fire.
He added that the injured have taken to various local hospitals for treatment.
