A Shibir activist, who was an accused in the case filed for the grisly petrol bomb attack on a bus in Sadar upazila on February 6, was killed in a reported shootout with law enforcers at Burir Ghar in Palashbari upazila early Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Mostafa Manjil, 27. Gaibandha Jamaat ameer Abdur Rahim informed UNB that Manjil was an activist of its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir.
Police claimed that a gang of criminals hurled a petrol bomb at a joint patrol team of RAB-13 and police when they reached Burir Ghar in the dead of night.
As the law enforcers retaliated by opening fire at the criminals, it triggered a fierce clash.
Several rounds of gunshot were reportedly traded between the law enforcers and the criminals, leaving Manjil injured by gunshots.
Later, the team arrested bullet-injured Manjil and took him to Gaibandha Adhunik Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
The law enforcers reportedly recovered two pistols, eight petrol bombs and two rounds of bullets from the scene.
