Dr. Dipankar Chakraborti, renowned Arsenic expert and former Director of Research and School of Environment Studies, Jadavpur University, breathed his last in Kolkata on Wednesday last, at the age of 76.
Professor Quazi Quamruzzaman, Chairman, Dhaka Community Hospital (DCH), expressed deep sorrow and Dhaka Community Hospital arranged a mourning meeting today for his eternal peace.
Dipankar was a forerunner in research of arsenic contamination in South Asia. He, along with Dhaka Community Hospital, researched and identified the arsenic affected areas in Bangladesh.
The WHO accepted Arsenic as a serious deathly disease of Bangladesh by the strong efforts and activities of Dr. Dipankar and Dhaka Community Hospital. Staff of DCH pray for his departed soul.
