Arrival of foreign ships at Mongla Port surpasses previous records

The number of the arrival of foreign commercial ships at Mongla Sea Port surpassed all the previous records in the month of December, 2020.
This new record was made when 117 foreign ships arrived at the port in the last month of the year 2020. It is the highest number of ships arrived at the port in a month since its inception (in 1950), officials said.
First record was made when as many as 100 foreign ships arrived at the port in the year of 2019.
This record was surpassed when 106 foreign commercial ships arrived at the port in the month of November in the last year (2020).
But all those records were broken in the last month (December, 2020). Those ships carried containers, coal, fertilizer, cars, atomic furnace and its required materials for Ruppur Atomic centre, power plants, railway materials, LPG mixtures, clinkers, limestone and raw materials for ceramic industries etc. to the port from abrades.
Following the gradual increase of the arrival of the foreign commercial ships at Mongla Port action and activities are on the increase around the port and new industries are being set up there which will play an important role to solve the unemployment problems of the localities as well as of the country.
Rear Admiral M Shahjahan, Chairman of Mongla Port Authorities told media that arrival of record number of foreign ships at the port was possible only for the initiative of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, full cooperation of the port-users, and untiring efforts of the officials and employees of the port.
The Chairman added, the port which once upon a time became ship-less (port) for want of navigability of the Pashur channel of the port. But at present a ship with 9.5 meter draft can move easily in the channel. Some 519 foreign ships arrived at the port in the first 6 months of 2020-2021 financial year. So, it is expected that the port will be able to handle more than one thousand foreign ships in current financial year.
