A police team operating drive at Krishnakathi village under Dudhal union of Bakerganj upazila in Barishal district arrested Ayub Gazi and his wife Nilufa Begum for drug peddling and sent them to jail on Saturday noon.
During the drive on Friday night three thousand pieces of Yaba tablets were recovered from possession of the couple and their son in law Helal Khan, who leading the drug peddling business managed to flee away.
Abul Kalam, officer in charge of Bakerganj police station, confirming the facts said police as complainant lodged a case under narcotic control act against the arrested couple and their absconding son in law on Friday night. The arrested couple was produced before judicial magistrate court in Barishal on Saturday noon and Mahfuz Alam, magistrate of the court, ordered to send them to jail, he added.
During interrogation arrested Ayub Gazi confessed that they collecting Yaba from Chattrogram supplying those in different areas of Barishal since long days. They wanted to construct house by supplying and selling those drugs. Police trying to arrest prime accused Helal Khan, son in law of Ayub-Nilufa couple, police sources said.
