A court here on Wednesday issued warrants for the arrest of 29 BNP leaders and activists, including some senior leaders, in an arson case filed with Paltan Police Station.
Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judge M Kamrul Hossain Mollah passed the order after taking cognisance of the charge sheet submitted against them.
Joynal Abedin Faruq, Shimul Biswas, Abdul Awal Mintoo, Barkatullah Bulu and Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah were among the BNP leaders.
However, 24 others BNP leader and activists, including its Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, secured bail in the case earlier, On January 5 last year, some unidentified miscreants vandalised and torched a mini bus in front of Hotel Bakshi at Paltan in the city.
Following the incident, Sub-Inspector of Paltan Police Station Manibur Rahman Sujan filed a case against 51 BNP leaders and activists including Fakhrul and many unidentified ones.
