The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka on Thursday issued arrest warrant against BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in the case filed accusing her of celebrating ‘fake’ birthday on August 15, the National Mourning Day.
Magistrate Mazharul Islam of the court issued the warrant as the BNP Chief did not appear in the court despite summons of the court. The complainant’s counsel Dulal Mitra told newsmen regarding the warrant in the morning. Gazi Zahirul Islam,
former Joint Secretary of Dhaka Union of Journalists, filed the case with the CMM Court of Dhaka Under Sections 198 and 469 of the Penal Code.
According to the case statement, Khaleda Zia has been intentionally celebrating her ‘fake’ birthday on August 15, since 1996. The case statement further says, the celebration of the ‘fake’ birthday on August 15 is a defamation of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members, who were assassinated on August 15,1975. The complaint adds, Khaleda Zia’s biography was published in the Dainik Banglar Bani in 1991 where her date of birth was mentioned August 17, 1945.
