Arrest-warrant against Fakhrul, two others

A Dhaka court has issued arrest-warrant against BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and two other persons in a case filed for assaulting police and torching vehicles in the city during a road blockade programme in December 2012.Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate MB Yunus Khan passed the order, as Mirza Fakhrul did not appear before the court on Sunday, the scheduled date for acceptance of the charge-sheet in the case filed with the Kadamtali Police Station. The court also ordered the concerned department to submit the report about the arrest-warrant by October 26.The two other persons, who are also under the order of arrest-warrant, are BNP activists Nasir Uddin and Mohammad Ali. Advocate Joynul Abedin Mejbah, counsel of the case, said that the court did not inform them that Mirza Fakhrul is accused in the case. His name was not in the FIR of the case. Additional Deputy Commissioner Md Anisur Rahman of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said that although the BNP leader was not named in the case in its FIR, he was later included in the charge-sheet upon finding evidence of his involvement.On June 16, Kadamtali police submitted the charge-sheet against Mirza Fakhrul and 60 other leaders and activists of the BNP-led alliance. According to the charge-sheet, the leaders and activists of the alliance torched and vandalised vehicles, attacked law enforcers and prevented them from discharging their duties during the road blockade programme in the area.
