Arrest warrant against cricketer Sunny in dowry case

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka yesterday issued arrest warrant against cricketer Arafat Sunny in a dowry case filed by a woman, who claimed herself as his wife. Earlier, the court framed charges against Sunny to start trial in the case.
Magistrate Zakir Hossain Tipu of the CMM Court passed the order on Sunday.
Muraduzzaman, lawyer of Arafat Sunny, said, “The case was scheduled for charge hearing on Sunday. But the accused Arafat Sunny could not appear in the court as he has been suffering from Chikunguniya.”
The lawyer also said that a petition seeking time was filed with the court, but the court rejected it and framed charges and issued arrest warrant against his client Sunny.
Arafat Sunny married Nasrin Sultana secretly. She filed the case on January 20 alleging that Sunny demanded Tk 20 lakh from her as dowry.
Earlier, she also lodged a case against the cricketer under Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act and Sunny was put behind bar in the case. Later, he obtained bail in the case.
A total of three cases were filed against the national team spinner. But, now, Sunny is on bail in all three cases.
