Arrest-spree takes a serious turn: Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday commented that the arrest spree had taken serious turn in the country.
“Arrest business by law enforcers has now become a regular practice panicking the citizens. It has taken serious turn now,” Mirza Fakhrul said it in a statement while condemning the arrest of the party’s Central Executive Committee Member Sheikh Mohammad Shamim.
“The Awami League government has continued repressions on the opposition leaders and the activists after forming the government,” he said.
“A reign of terror has been established in the country through repression on leaders and activists of BNP and other opposition parties after arresting them in false case. The arrest business by law enforcers has now become an order of the day,” Mirza Fakhrul said.
He demanded to the government to immediately release Sheikh Shamim.
Later on the day, Mirza Fakhrul said in a function that the government had already established a one-party BAKSAL rule again.
“The AL has established the one-party BAKSAL rule again after snatching people’s voting right through the 11th Parliamentary polls. All political parties should realize that it is highly necessary to form a strong national unity to restore democracy in the country,” the BNP leader said while addressing a commemorate meeting of Jatiya Party (Kazi Zafar) former Acting Chairman TIM Fazle Rabby Chowdhury in the National Press club.
He urged all to form a stronger national unity with people of all walks.
Jatiya Party (Kazi Zafar) Secretary General Mostofa Jamal Haider presided over the programme.
