The High Court (HC) on Tuesday directed police to arrest in 72 hours the criminals connected with the attack on Shahnur Biswas for protesting the stalking of his daughter in Kaliganj upazila of Jhenaidah.
A HC bench of Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice Mohammad Ullah passed the order following a report published in the
daily Prothom Alo on Tuesday. The HC also ordered the authorities concerned to submit the progress report in this regard by November 27.
The Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police of Jhenaidah and the Officer-in-Charge of Kaliganj Police Station were made respondents to the order.
On October 16, a gang of stalkers attacked Shahnur Biswas, a resident of Naldanga village of the Upazila, as he protested their stalking of his daughter. The stalkers beat him indiscriminately, leaving his seriously injured.
The miscreants thrashed him with sledge-hammer, chisel, and iron bar resulting in profuse bleeding, according to the report.
Shahnur’s elder daughter was forced to quit her studies following the ceaseless stalking by the alleged criminals, the report further added.
Shahnur underwent amputation of both of his legs and he is now undergoing treatment at National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedic Rehabilitation (NITOR) in the capital.
A case was filed with the Kaliganj Police Station in this connection.
The stalkers are reportedly threatening the victim’s family to withdraw the case.
