Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque on Sunday said, Neo-JMB Chief Ayub Bachchu and all of his associates are under the surveillance of detectives and will soon be arrested.
“Bachchu is a miscreant. He’ll be arrested anytime. Police and detectives are working to arrest all the militants, including Bachchu,” the police chief said.
The IGP came up with the remark while exchanging post-Eid greetings with crime reporters at the Police Headquarters in the city on Sunday .
“Almost all the senior militants have been neutralised, some have been killed in various operations across the country and some were captured. Militancy could not be uprooted yet, but it has been weakened,” the Police chief said.
He urged the people to offer a strong resistance against militancy. “I firmly believe that it’ll be possible to root out militancy if people from all walks of life extend their support,” the IGP said.
When asked, why most of the operations so far were conducted in north Bengal, the IGP said, “Old JMB had a stronghold in north Bengal and that is why Neo-JMB is active there.”
