Attack on IUBAT campus: Arrest of miscreants demanded

Staff Reporter :The authorities of the International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) has demanded arrest and exemplary punishment to the miscreants involved with the terrorist attack and vandalism on the university campus. The university authorities at a press conference on its campus in the capital’s Uttara on Tuesday claimed that properties worth several crores of taka were damaged in the Monday’s attack. The academic activities have been threatened due to the attack and the vandalism. Founder and Vice-Chancellor of the IUBAT Prof. Dr. M Alimullah Miyan spoke in the press conference while teachers and students of the university were present there. M Alimullah Miyan requested the concerned authorities to identify the miscreants through video footage, which was recorded in the CCTV cameras of the university.According to the university authorities, a group of around 300 miscreants carried out the attack on the IUBAT campus at about 2:40 PM on Monday (November 30). At least 100 teachers, students and staff of the university were injured in the attack. Some police members were also injured. The injured persons got admitted to the Crescent Hospital, Uttara Adhunik Hospital and some other hospitals. Some 12 cars and microbusses were vandalised during the attack. Office of the Vice-Chancellor was also attacked and its window-shields were damaged. The miscreants armed with sticks entered the campus suddenly breaking down the main gate and carried out the attack the vandalism. The security guards tried to resist them, but failed. He was also injured. M Alimullah Miyan said that it was seen in the CCTV video footage and still pictures that the miscreants, who stormed the campus, were with panjabi and trousers. They began the attack with the slogan of “Naray-e Takbir”. The situation later brought under control in presence of RAB.The university authorities have suspected that militant fundamentalists might be behind the attack, as a militant fundamentalist group has been creating bar on the academic activities of the university. The group had the attempt to carry out attack on the campus since the High Court rejected a writ petition of seven persons. They filed the writ petition for allowing the panjabi and the trouser on the campus.
