Bangladesh Army dominated the medal table of the NRB Commercial Bank 41st National Athletics Championship after the 2nd day of the three-day meet securing 10 gold, 15 silver and five bronze medals at the Bangabandhu National Stadium here on Saturday.
After the 22 events decided in the first two days, Bangladesh Navy followed Bangladesh Army neck and neck securing 10 gold, five silver and seven bronze medals while Bangladesh Jail were in the distant 3rd position with one gold, two silver and five bronze medals.
Mohammad Moniruzzaman of Bangladesh Army set a new national record in the men’s javelin throw covering a distance of 64.05 metres to improve the previous marks of 63.74 metres made by Mohammad Rasheduzzaman in 1990 in Chittagong.
The championship’s most attractive events — men’s and women’s 100 metre sprints — will be held on the last day of the three-day meet on Sunday at 3:30pm and 3:45pm respectively.
President of Bangladesh Athletics Federation ASM Ali Kabir will be the chief guest in the closing ceremony.
