BNP Vice-Chairman Major (rtd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed on Sunday said that the Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda told them that the Army will prevent any violence in polling stations.
“The CEC said us that the Army would not sit idle in district headquarters. If any violence erupts in poll centers, the Army will move there to meet emergencies,” the ex Army Major said to the journalists after a meeting with the CEC.
Hafiz Uddin said that he met the CEC being advised by his party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
“I have informed the CEC that I cannot go to my Constituency Bhola-3, even after announcement of the polls schedule, due to the threats of the ruling party. Many other areas of the country have the same situations. The BNP leaders including aspirants could not go to their own areas,” Hafiz Uddin said.
The BNP leader said that he had informed the CEC about the fictitious cases filed against his party men in his constituency.
Major (rtd) Hafiz said that EVM is a controversial voting machine. Germany cancelled using EVM in their election. Most of the countries of the European Union and developed world are not using EVM.
“We hope, the EC will accept our demand to cancel EVM in 11th Parliamentary polls,” he said.
