EC Sect says: Army to be called if needed

Staff Reporter :Additional Secretary of Election Commission Secretariat Md Mokhlesur Rahman on Sunday said, the Army would be called in if necessary and they would bring any unexpected situation under control.He made the remark quoting “The Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed as saying the Army would intervene if the EC calls.” He said this at a conference held in the BIAM Auditorium to brief the 307 magistrates who would discharge their duties in Dhaka South and North City Corporations elections on April 28.  Mokhlesur Rahman said, Dhaka South and North City Corporations elections are an inclusive election. The parties doing politics in the country are backing their favourite candidates. There is no possibility to occur violence from any quarter. Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Zillar Rahman told magistrates to conduct their activities properly. “The voters want justice. They trust you. Similar occurrences will not take place everywhere. The style of occurrences will be different in different areas. So, think carefully before taking or giving decision. If you fail please call me. But I think the situation will remain good,” Zillar Rahman said. Dhaka North City Corporation Returning Officer Md Shah Alam said that the situation is good till the date.Dhaka South City Corporation Returning Officer Mihir Sarwar said nine people died before the last City Corporation election. Three elected councillors died after the election. The election will be held after some hours. But there is no bad news in the areas. Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka District Tofazzal Hossain told magistrate to perform their duties with honesty and patience. He warned that the magistrates would be brought under punishment if they fail to conduct their jobs perfectly. Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Asaduzzaman Miah said, it is very difficult to make the election transparent and enjoyable. He directed the police officials and magistrates to work together.
