Members of the armed forces have been deployed to help the civil administration fight the coronavirus (COVID-19) across the country.
The Army personnel started to work from yesterday, said Director of Inter Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) Lt Col Abdullah Ibn Zayed on Tuesday.
They will work in combating COVID-19 nationwide by enforcing social distancing and other cautionary measures in coordination with civil administration, said Lt Col Abdullah.
On Monday, the government said that the troops would remain deployed in the divisional cities and district towns from March 24 to combat the virus which so far infected 33 people and calming three lives.
They will be responsible for reviewing arrangements coronavirus patient treatment and ensuring social distance and mandatory home quarantine of returnees from abroad and their close contacts, the ISPR said in a statement sent to the media later in the day.
The district magistrates will seek help from the local army commanders, the statement added.
Bangladesh on Tuesday reported its fourth death from coronavirus and identification of six new patients, taking the total number of confirmed cases to 39.
Bangladesh reported the country’s first death from coronavirus on March 18.
