Frequent clashes among BCL activists: Arms recovered, activities of CU Unit postponed

Police in an emergent raid at the residential halls of Chittagong University, after a fierce factional-clash between the activists of Chhatra League, ruling party student front that injured at least seven persons including an assistant proctor, recovered bullets, shorter gun, several sacks of stones, hundreds matched, ram dha, irony rod among others.
Meanwhile, the central body of Chhatra League adjourned the all-out party activities at CU unit for indefinite period, saying the party activities has been postponed due to violation of ‘code of conduct’ and failure to maintain order in the body.
Police of Hathazari Thana conducted the raid at 10.30 pm to 1.00 am, on Thursday night and yesterday while they recovered 32 rounds of bullet from Shah Amanat Hall but no one was arrested in this connection. Meanwhile, the police team also conducted raid to the cottages adjacent to the residential halls yesterday to round up the involved persons who created chaos and disorder at the varsity premises, capturing three suspected and recovered a shorter gun.
CU police-station in-charge Aktaruzzaman told the journos that, police have recovered 32 rounds of bullet, several sacks of stones, irony rods and machete from several halls.
Earlier, at least seven activists of Chhatra League was wounded in a factional-clash on Thursday noon while two groups-one headed by CU president Alamgir Tipu and another one by general secretary HM Fazle Rabbi Sujon.
Following the clash, the two groups took position at Shahjalal Hall and Shah Amanat Hall and furthermore locked into clashes in the evening. The duo tilted brick-bat to one another and made chase and counter chase.
The police brought the situation under control but the duo-party was still staying with country-made weapons and tension was prevailing.
Amid the situation the central body of Chhatra League announced the adjournment of the CU BCL-body’s activities for indefinite period. The decision came with a press release, signed by Saifur Rahman Sohag, president of Bangladesh Chhatra Leage and SM Jakir Hossain, general secretary of the central body.
After the announcement, the administration went for raid to recover the weapons and round up the criminals who involved in creating tension in the campus.
Notably, CU unit Chhatra League was preparing to form the hall unit and faculty unit body in a conference, scheduled to be held on May 14, in presence of the party chief Saifur Rahman Sohag and SM Jakir Hossain.
Mentionable, CU unit Chhatra League was also postponed on February 10 last year, just after few days of the formation of the body, also for clashes between the two groups.
