Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) raided the den of Jamaa’tul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) in the capital’s Uttara and seized huge explosive, arms and few objectionable books early Friday.
An arges grenade, 12 Molotov crude bombs, 30 crude bombs, 60
detonators, some bomb making materials and more than 12 objectionable books were recovered from the hideout. The elite force arrested at least four members, including a top leader of the militant outfit in this connection.
They have been identified as Mofazzal, 42, top-level leader, Ziaul, 35, Razzak, 40, and Hanjala, 37, RAB officials said.
RAB-10’s Deputy Director Major Toufiqul Bari said that a team of RAB raided a tin-shed house in the Uttara’s Prembagan area around 3:30am based on secret information and arrested them from the house.
The official also said that Ziaul, Razzak and Hanjala were mid-level members, while Mofazzal was a top leader of JMB. “We will take steps against those arrested according to the law,” the elite force official said.
They raided the house owned by Abdur Rauf, a former Bangladesh Biman official. He lived in a similar next door house with his wife Hosne Ara Begum and three children, sources said.
One ‘Mamun’ took the house on rent last month claiming himself to be a readymade garment (RMG) businessman, RAB officials said.
“Mamun also told the land lord that his wife would be coming to Dhaka next month,” he added.
