The Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court of Dhaka yesterday fixed September 28 to deliver the verdict in the arms case filed against Regent Group Chairman Mohammad Shahed.
Judge KM Imrul Kayesh of the court fixed the date after hearing the arguments of both the prosecution and the defence on Sunday.
Public Prosecutor Md Abullah Abu represented the prosecution while the lawyers Nazmul Hossain, Moniruzzaman and others placed arguments on behalf of Shahed in the court.
During Thursday’s hearing, Dhaka’s Metropolitan Public Prosecutor Abdullah Abu told the court, they have been able to prove the charges against accused Shahed of possessing firearms and sought the highest punishment in the case. Later, they prayed for highest punishment to the accused in the case.
Earlier, the tribunal recorded the statements of 10 prosecution witnesses, including complainant of the case.
The court framed charges against Shahed, accused in more than 60 cases, on August 27 in this case.
Shahed was arrested on July 15 from Satkhira border area when he was trying to leave the country by boat.
He was later remanded in a case filed over issuing fake Covid-19 test results and charging patients unfairly for testing and treatment.
On July 19, a team of DB police found Shahed’s private car in front of a house in Sector-11, in the city’s Uttara area. On the occasion they seized a pistol with a round of bullets from the car and later a case under the Arms Act was filed against him.
On July 30, DB Inspector Md Sairul Islam submitted the charge sheet of the case to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court of Dhaka, showing 13 people prosecution witnesses in the case.
