The Detective Branch (DB) of Police in a drive seized three firearms and 1,000 round of bullets from the city’s Sabujbagh area early Thursday. They have also arrested a man in this connection.
The arrested man has been identified as Saifullah Khan alias Sabuj, 40, an arms trader, police said.
The DB’s Joint Commissioner and Spokesman Monirul Islam disclosed the matter at a press briefing at Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Media Centre on Thursday.
The police official said that a team of DB conducted a drive in Sabigbagh area and detained Saifullah Khan with two revolvers and a pistol and 1,000 bullets.
Sabuj led the arms smuggled trade in the area, the police official said.
Sabuj was the president of Bhasabo Mobile Servicing Engineers’Association of Bangladesh, he said.
A legal action would be taken against him in this connection, the DB spokesman said.
