Armed Forces Day observed in Sylhet

Language veteran, valiant freedom fighter, Minister of Land Affairs Shamsur Rahman Sharif said, the armed forces of Bangladesh have been playing a pioneering role in keeping the flag of the Independence of Bangladesh lofty.
The Land Minister was addressing a ceremony organised by 17th Infantry Division of Bangladesh Army at Sylhet Cantonment at Botashwar about 15 Kilometres east of Sylhet Division Head-quarters on the occasion of the observance of Armed Forces Day on Monday afternoon.
While addressing as Chief Guest Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sharif MP said, Bangladesh Armed Forces have been playing a pioneering role in keeping the national sovereignty.
Recalling the contribution of Armed forces during Bangladesh War of Independence the land minister said, responding to the call of the Father of the Nation Bangladesh Sheikh Mujibur Rahman the minister opined that Army, EPR (Now BDR) and civilians came forward for the Liberation War of Bangladesh and at long last the freedom fighters snatched away independence from the occupation army who surrendered on 16th December, 1971.
 Bangladesh Army, he continued, has been discharging its duty abroad in United Nations Peace Keeping Missions in various countries of the world. Mr. Sharif underscored a valiant, disciplined army having modern weapons in order to foil all conspiracy both home and abroad.
While inaugurating the ceremony the chief guest cut the ceremonial cake presuled over by Sylhet area commander and General Officer Commanding (GOC) Mayor Genl. Anwarul Momen P.Sc the ceremony6 was attended among others Muhibur Rahman Manik MP, Yeahia Chowdhury Ahea MP, Abdul Munim Chowdhury Babu MP, Amatul Kibria Keya Chowdhury, Sylhet Divisional Commissioner Md. Jamal Uddin Ahmed, DIG Sylhet Range Mizanur Rahman PPM and others.
