The Jatiya Sangsad (JS) unanimously passed the Appropriation Bill-2017 on Thursday, authorizing the government to spend Taka five 535214,15,92,000 form the exchequer for meeting revenue, development and charged expenditures in the upcoming fiscal year (FY) 2017-2018 beginning Saturday.
Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith moved the bill in the House for passage seeking the budgetary allocation with the ministers concerned placing their proposals for expenditure through 60 demands for grants.
With settlement of cut motions brought by opposition and independent lawmakers through discussions, the House passed the bill by voice votes with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair. The bill will come into effect from July 1, 2017.
Meanwhile, Finance Minister AMA Muhith placed a Taka 4,00,266 crore national budget for the fiscal 2017-18 on June 1, setting the GDP growth target at 7.4 percent and outlining a set of plans-strategies to build a prosperous, happy and peaceful country by 2041.
The opposition and independent lawmakers proposed 352 cut motions. Of those, six demands came up for discussions and rejected by voice votes.
