Appointment of foreign CEOs suicidal for Biman

A New Nation Report :
Believe it or not, national flag carrier, Biman Bangladesh Airlines, has attempted to perform better by appointing foreign experts as its Managing Director or Chief Executive Officer at incredibly high salary and allowances, but failed to show any better performance. Appointment of foreign nationals as the MD or CEO has been found to be suicidal for Bangladesh’s national flag carrier. For about a couple of years, two British nationals have worked as the CEO of Biman at a monthly salary and allowances of BDT three million (thirty lakh) each. Although the first foreign CEO did some work to draw the fabulous salary and allowances, the present CEO reportedly does nothing, but draws the fabulous salary and allowances with which as many 30 Bangladeshi experts could do better.
There is a very interesting story of retrenchment of Biman’s redundant employees through golden handshake as per suggestion of the World Bank. Through golden handshake retrenchment Biman’s workforce of about around 7,000 employees was halved to around 3,500, but as the process of retrenchment was faulty, many got back their jobs after winning court cases and many got back their jobs on casual basis.
Some aviation experts believe the ratio of optimum number of aircraft and employees to be 1:200 for profitability of an airline. At the moment some Biman officials believe Biman needs more employees and some believe Biman’s workforce is excess compared to requirement.
