The proposal for engagement of consultant for Karnaphuli tunnel project has been approved by the Procurement committee of cabinet ministry on Wednesday .
The procurement committee in the 23rd meeting of current year approved the design review of tunnel construction project and supervision of the implementation work , an online news portal said.
Finance Minister Abul Mal Abdul Muhit presided over it duly attended by Industry Minister Amir Hossain Amu, Commerce Minister Tofayel Ahmed, LGRD Minister Engr. Mosharaf Hossain, Water Resources Minister Anisul Islam Mahmud, State Minister of Power Ministry Nasrul Hamid Bipu and the state minister for Labour & Employment Mujibul Hoque. Additional Secretary of the Cabinet Division Mostafizur Rahman told that Procurement committee of the ministry approved the proposal for engaging consultant for Kasrnaphuli tunnel with total cost of Tk.291 cr. This is the first ever tunnel of the country having length 3.4 kilometers under the Karnaphuli river .
The total cost of the construction of the tunnel project estimated at Tk8000 crores, news agency sources said.
Chinese Bridge Department will implement the project with joint collaboration of Bangladesh govt.
