BSS :
Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Sunday said the application seeking to send BNP chief Begum Khaleda Zia abroad for treatment despite having the optimum treatment facilities in the country is politically motivated.
“We pray for early recovery of Begum Khaleda Zia. BNP has also informed that Begum Zia is recovering rapidly. This is really a good news,” he said, replying to a query of newsmen at his official residence in the capital.
Earlier, the minister addressed a function of distribution of food among the affected people due to COVID 19 online organised by Bangladesh Swadhinata Parishad (BSP) on the premises of RKK Degree College at Saidabad in the capital.
Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary, said Begum Khaleda Zia is getting optimum medical services of the country and the government specially the Prime Minister has given necessary directives to the concerned to ensure it.
“The report of COVID-19 of Begum Zia has become negative. For this, I would like to extend my thanks to the doctors,” he added.
“But, the purpose of the application of BNP seeking to take Begum Zia abroad for treatment is not reasonable. There is a political motive behind this as she (Begum Zia) is recovering through treatment,” said Hasan.
The minister said no country receives any corona positive patient.
“The physical complications that arise due to the COVID-19 is a common phenomenon. And I know it as I was also infected with the virus. This is needed to continue the treatment of Begum Zia in the country instead of taking her abroad. So, I think their political purpose is to send Begum Zia abroad, not her treatment,” he added.
AL leaders Advocate Boloram Poddar and MA Karim, Freedom Fighter Abdul Gani and BSP president Zinnat Ali Jhan Zinnah, among others, addressed the function with its advisor Barrister Sohorab Khan Chowdhury in the chair.
Later, the guests handed over food items to about 500 families of the area.
