A good number of job seekers have become frustrated as many of them had crossed maximum age limit for government job during the pandemic lockdown period.
According to the victims, recruitment tests have remained suspended for about one and a half years due to the coronavirus pandemic. As a result thereof , many of job seekers are in disappointment for not getting a government job within their 30 years as they are about to cross the present age limit (30 years) set by the government.
Mhabub Hossain, ex-student of Dhaka University, told the New Nation, at present I am about 30 years old. I passed last five years behind seeking the government jobs. But unfortunately I haven’t got the job yet. Actually last two years, all most government recruitment tests remained suspended due to coronavirus pandemic as well as lockdown period.
Recently 44th BCS notification has published where government didn’t relax the age limit. Consequently I cannot apply for this BCS, Mahmub added.
”We thought government must consider about the age limit as we are victim of the situation, but finally government didn’t do that, he further said.
Md. Lavlu Hasan, another victim, told the New Nation that we are Bangladeshi citizens. So government has to think about our rights and issues.
Earlier, it was said, If a candidate is less than 30 years before the lockdown, he or she will be able to apply for the jobs, but government didn’t consider the age limit for the 44th BCS exam. As a result, I was in despair.
In this issue, when asked, Md Sohrab Hossain, Chairman of the Public Service Commission, told the New Nation that PSC has no jurisdiction to increase the age for the victim candidates.It’s a complete matter of the government as well as the ministry of Public Administration.
We are working under a autonomous body whose only duty is to recruit candidates in the government service. So we are not supposed to say something about the age limit. Rather you should talk with the ministry of Public Administration, PSC chairman added.
Earlier, the government was considering a large age waiver like 21 months for the government job seekers due to the situation caused by the coronavirus. But finally they couldn’t do that.
Meanwhile, several hundred students from different colleges and universities blocked the capital’s Shahbagh intersection on Wednesday, demanding that the age limit for entry into government jobs should be increased.
Under the banner of “Sorbodoliyo Chhatra Oikkyo Parishad”, they took to the street at Sahabagh around 11pm.
