UNB, Dhaka :
The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) on Monday dismissed an appeal challenging the life term sentence of Oishee Rahman, who murdered her parents in 2013.
The top court also permitted Oishee to file a ‘leave to appeal’ against her life-term sentence.
A three-member bench led by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order after hearing a ‘leave to appeal’ filed by the state.
Deputy Attorney General Bishwajit Debnath
stood for the state while Advocate Faisal H Khan represented the convict.
On November 12, 2015, a Dhaka court convicted Oishee and sentenced her to death for killing her parents – police Inspector Mahfuzur Rahman and Swapna Rahman.
Oishee’s friend and associate Mizanur Rahman received a two-year jail-term and another associate, Asaduzzaman Rony, was acquitted.
On June 5, 2017, the High Court commuted Oishee’s sentence to life imprisonment.
SB Inspector Mahfuzur and his wife were found dead at their Chamelibagh residence in the capital on August 16, 2013.
Mahfuzur’s brother Mohammad Mashiur Rahman Rubel filed a case at Paltan Police Station the next day.
Later, Oishee surrendered to police and confessed to killing her parents.
