Health Minister Zahid Maleque on Saturday inaugurated the newly constructed isolated building to treat Covid-19 patients at Anwar Khan Modern Medical College Hospital in Dhaka.
“The hospital is equipped with all modern facilities. It will play an important role in treating the coronavirus infected people as it is located in the heart of the capital,” the health minister said during the inaugural function this noon.
There are 200 beds, 10 Intensive Care Units, 10 High Dependency Units and five ventilators at the hospital to ensure smooth treatment of Covid-19 patients, the minister said.
Along with Anwar Khan Modern Hospital, the government has so far set up 14 hospitals dedicated to Covid-19 patients in Dhaka, the minister said, adding that scope of treating some 10 to 15 thousand people has been created through the efforts.
Saying that the government is doing its best to control the spread of the coronavirus, he said 42 labs have been set up in different places, and 20 lakh PPEs and over one lakh testing kits have already been procured. He also added that the number of tests had gone up.
Apart from these, the government will do all necessary tasks, including increasing the number of beds in hospitals, to make its efforts a success, the health minister said in the programme.
