Anvir among eight sued over Munia rape, murder

Two cases have been filed against Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, Managing Director (MD) Sayem Sobhan Anvir and six others in connection with the rape and murder of college student Mosarat Jahan Munia.
Victim’s elder sister Nusrat Jahan filed the case in the Dhaka Women and Child Abuse Suppression Tribunal-8 on Monday.
Judge Begum Mafruza Parveen directed the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate the case and submit an investigation report by October 6, Mokhlesur Rahman, a bench assistant of the court, confirmed the news to the media.
The other accused in the case are Sayem’s mother Afroza, 60, wife Sabrina, 40, Sharmin, 40, Saifa Rahman Mim, 35, Faria Mahbub Piyasha and Ibrahim Ahmed Ripon.In the case statement, the plantiff alleged that Munia were threatened to leave Dhaka or she to die.
The cases have been handed over to the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) for investigation.
Earlier, police recovered Mosarat’s dead body from a flat in the capital’s Gulshan area on 26 April this year.
On 27 April, Mosarat’s sister Nusrat filed a case with the Gulshan Police Station against Sayem Sobhan, who reportedly maintained had a relation with Munia, on allegation of ‘abetment of suicide’.
After three months of investigation, the police did not arrest or interrogate Sayem in the case.
Police even, on 19 July, submitted the final probe report over Munia’s death dropping the name of lone accused Anvir.
The court also accepted the chargesheet on August 18. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury also dismissed the no confidence petition filed by Mosarat’s family against the police report.
